New Year's Resolutions

So...Another year is coming - 2012!!!
Some of us are excited about it --- and some of us are not.
But, this is the time of year when a lot of us make New Year's Resolutions.

For many years, I made these resolutions with dread.
Like... well, this year I want things to be different.
I want to finally get in shape physically - work out, lift some weights, eat healthy.
I am going to increase my income - maybe find a home based part time business that works.
I want to get rid of bad habits --- you get the idea.

The term "want" doesn't cut it.
The years I dreaded New Year's Resolutions time were the years I knew deep down inside that I was fooling myself.
I knew there was a big difference between a "good idea" and declaring to the world what I was really committed to.
You know exactly what I mean.

New Year's Resolutions time doesn't have to be this way!

We know when we are fooling ourselves...don't we?
Real change comes when we are disgusted and finally have had enough.
You know about that too.
"I will not live like this anymore!" That statement has resolve and determination.
Three steps are necessary for effective New Year's Resolutions.

1. Know what you are really committed to. I mean committed - not wishful thinking.

2. Have a plan of action - a real, day by day plan. This in a blueprint of moving towards your goals in a realistic manner.
Attaining measurable goals in measurable time. And when you have setbacks, get up and keep going. Be honest about these setbacks and
use them as incentive to get back on track.

3. Have a support structure. Surround yourself with people in your life that you have declared your goals to. These are people
who will hold you accountable and not be afraid to be honest with you when they see you stray.

Wow, you say. That sounds serious.
Well, how bad to you want to change your life?
Will this be another year of, "let's make some goals and New Year's resolutions because I should change my life," - like a good idea?
O will it be, "YES, I WILL change my life this year!"
You know the difference.

3 Keys to Learn an Internet Business

I am learning an internet business. For 27 years I have built a network marketing business, but the two
are not totally the same. Oh sure, there are network marketing companies that have links to promote their
products and marketing plan - and they call that internet marketing.
But, that is not what I am talking about.
I am talking about viral blogging, SEO, backlinking, syndication, world wide web traffic, sales capture
pages, conversions, affiliate marketing and --- the best --- 100% commissions!
I'll be honest, a few months ago I didn't know what most of those terms meant.

I don't know about you .. but this time of year , I reflect on the past year.

To kind of take stock .. what am I grateful for?( a lot)

And as a far as business goes .. and If I'm brutally honest with myself.. Did I have a great year?

OK... I admit it... I resisted technology for years.
I didn't even get a computer until 2001.

I am not technically inclined. My wife has always been the one who is better at this stuff,
so in a way, I didn't have to completely learn it.

I have always been a talker and a communicator - that's why I loved teaching for a few years after graduating from college.
Then I discovered network marketing at the tender age of 25.

I discovered that I could communicate...talk and listen.. develop lifelong friendships - teach people -
work from home and make healthy 6 figure incomes.
And I did - and I brought a lot of friends with me.
I played to my strengths - face to face presentations, leading meetings and trainings from the front of the room.
I was really good on the phone - could run ads in papers around the country and close a lot of people.

Life was good.

Then, in the 90's I noticed something.

Certain companies had websites and video links and they started developing online marketing strategies as crude as they were.
I started feeling uncomfortable - instinctively I knew things were about to change.. and fast.

Something Amazing Happened Today!

Today as I was shaving I turned and looked at my shower curtain. Wow - you may say. So what?
But, this is monumental, because in that instant I had a major breakthrough.

You see, my shower curtain has been there for many years, but I never noticed the fine detail and stitching on it. There was an amazing texture of threads making beautiful arrays of flowers - intricate needlework.

And then I thought.....This is sometimes how it is with business.Often I make the mistake of thinking I know what my prospects and customers are going to say and how best to serve them and bring them to the next level in their business. But, am I really listening?

 

Am I really observing every unique situation?

Am I really hearing what they have to say?
This can be profound.

What if we look beyond the words and hear the feelings, the unspoken communications from our prospects and business associates?

What if we meet them where they are at, instead of where we think they should be?
What if we help them get where they want to go, instead of where we think they should go?

This is not to say that you don't present your business.

Start Your New Years Resolutions Now

Why, Kevin, should I start my New Years Resolution now you may ask?
Many people get very inspired on January 1st in the New Year.
Typically someone might say, "I am starting my new diet on January 1st and finally losing 50 pounds. This is the year I finally get out of debt and I will double my income this year."

So, the last 3 weeks of December, I might as well eat, drink and be merry and spend, spend, spend because come January 1st everything will change.

So, who cares if I gain 10 pounds and max out 2 more credit cards for Christmas - because, again, come January 1st, everything changes.

Can you see the faulty thinking here?
Instead of setting yourself up for massive failure on January 1st, it would make more sense to start today on your goals.

Enjoy your holiday feasts. But, why not lose a few pounds by January 1st? You know what it takes - more exercise and eating correctly.

Instead of getting more in debt, wouldn't it be better to limit your spending this holiday season and work on another source of income now? So, when January 1st does get here, you have momentum moving toward your goals instead of totally setting yourself up for unreal expectations happening overnight.

I encourage you to set outrageous goals, but it is very important to make a decision to move in the right direction by increments.

Are you the tortoise that never gives up or are you the hare that starts fast but runs out of breath?

I say, "Turtle Power with Big Vision."

Because January 1st is only a day on the calendar, and you can truly choose to start a new life on any day of the calendar year.
